Thanksgiving 2012

Thanksgiving (giving thanks) is a time to think about all of the blessings we have experienced through the year, a time where family, friends and loved ones gather to give thanks. However, while Thanksgiving is a special time for the many people who are homeless, “Thanksgiving” can be a lonely and sad time.  Many people who are experiencing homelessness are without family, possibly without having connected with their family for years.  That’s why Matthew House celebrates “Thanksgiving” with family style meals for all.  Our 2012 Thanksgiving holiday celebration was no different. Through the help of volunteers, Matthew House was able to bring joy and gladness to over 73 homeless people.  All the trimming was provided and everyone was treated as “family”.  It was a joyous and wonderful time.

2012 Hunger Walk

Thank you for being one of the 9,400 walkers who raised more than $500,000 to help pantries, soup kitchens and shelters last year. Walk with us again this year as we take steps to defeat hunger in our community at the 2012 Hunger Walk. The need is greater than ever as more than 807,000 men, women and children in Cook County - 1 in 6 people - are food insecure. The Hunger Walk website is live and ready for you to sign up and raise funds to provide food for hungry people while striving to end hungering our community!
